Conventin 100mg

Compound:

Each hard gelatin capsule contains:

Gabapentin — 100 mg.

Auxiliary components:

microcrystalline cellulose, corn starch, croscarmellose sodium, magnesium stearate, purified talc.

Properties

Gabapentin is a new generation antiepileptic drug that increases gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) levels. Reduces the flow of calcium ions, which plays an important role in the occurrence of neuropathic pain. Other mechanisms of action of Gabapentin in neuropathic pain are the reduction of glutamate-dependent neuronal death.

Indications

treatment of neuropathic pain in diabetic polyneuropathy, postherpetic neuralgia, neuropathic low back pain and trigeminal neuralgia. In the treatment of partial seizures with or without secondary generalization. As an adjuvant in patients unresponsive or intolerant to standard anti-epileptics.

Mode of application:

on the first day 100 mg 3 times a day, then 200 mg 3 times a day (second day), then 300 mg 3 times a day (third day). The dose is increased on the 4th day to 400 mg 3 times a day and gradually increased to 2400 mg per day by the third week. The safe daily dose of Gabapentin is 3600 mg given that the total daily dose should be divided into 3 single doses in each case. The first dose should be administered at bedtime to avoid any side effect. In patients with impaired renal insufficiency or those undergoing hemodialysis, dose adjustment is necessary in accordance with the instructions of the physician. Care must be taken when discontinuing the drug with gradual withdrawal by reducing the dose within 7 days.

Contraindications

with hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients.

Precautionary measures:

Patients are advised not to drive or operate any equipment while on Conventin therapy. Use with caution in patients with mixed seizure syndrome. Patients receiving gabapentin should be monitored for the onset or worsening of depression, suicidal thoughts or behavior, and/or any unusual changes in mood or behavior.

Side effects

most often — drowsiness, back pain, dizziness, fatigue, headache, nausea and vomiting.
