Artelak

Compound:

Each ml contains:

methylhydroxypropyl cellulose 3.20 mg,

preserved with cetrimide 0.1 mg.

Auxiliary components:

Sodium dihydrogen phosphate, disodium edetate, sorbitol.

Properties

Normally, the cornea should be hydrated mainly by mucin, which is produced by the conjunctiva. Mucin is adsorbed on the cornea and forms a hydrophilic surface. With dry eye syndrome, especially with a deficiency of mucin, the use of artificial tear fluid is prescribed.

Methylhydroxopropyl cellulose is particularly suitable for this application due to its surface activity and adsorption capacity. Due to the physico-chemical action of hypromellose in aqueous solution, it reduces surface tension and also increases viscosity. Hypromellose is well fixed on the cornea and conjunctiva and provides normal hydration. The severity of symptoms of irritation caused by blinking due to a lack of tear fluid is thus reduced, which prevents the symptoms of drying of the epithelium.

Indications

for the symptomatic treatment of phenomena of drying of the cornea and mucous membrane of the eye (dry eye syndrome) caused by impaired lacrimal secretion and tear function due to local or systemic diseases, as well as in case of insufficient or incomplete closure of the eyelids. For wetting and additional moistening of hard contact lenses.

Dosage and administration

treatment of dry eye syndrome requires individual dosing. Unless otherwise prescribed, then, depending on the need, 1 drop is instilled into the conjunctival sac 3-5 or more times a day.

With prolonged use of the drug Artelac, you should consult your doctor.

Contraindications

hypersensitivity to any of the components of the drug.

Precautionary measures:

Soft contact lenses must be removed before using Artelac, wait for 15 minutes, then reinsert them.

Side effects

Hypersensitivity reactions are very rare. There may be burning, redness, sensation of a foreign body in the eye, blurred vision, watery eyes, swelling, itching, pain in the eye. Artelac contains cetrimide as a preservative, which may cause eye irritation, especially with frequent or prolonged use, and may damage the cornea of the eye. Thus, for the long-term treatment of chronic dry keratoconjunctivitis, drugs without preservatives should be preferred.

Storage method:

Store at a temperature not exceeding 25 degrees. After opening, store no longer than 4 weeks.
