Properties

Tetrizoline is a sympathomimetic drug that stimulates α-adrenergic receptors of the sympathetic nervous system, but has no or little effect on β-adrenergic receptors. Being a sympathomimetic amine, tetrizoline has a vasoconstrictive effect and reduces tissue edema.

The effect begins 60 seconds after instillation and lasts 4-8 hours.

Indications

to relieve swelling and hyperemia of the conjunctiva (eye redness) caused by exposure to chemical and physical factors (smoke, wind, dust, chlorinated water, light, cosmetics, contact lenses), as well as arising from allergic reactions such as hay fever.

Dosage and administration

The drug is applied topically.

Adults and children over 6 years of age are prescribed 1 or 2 drops in the affected eye up to 4 times / day.

For children under 6 years of age, use after consulting a doctor.

Contraindications

— angle-closure glaucoma;

— endothelial-epithelial dystrophy of the cornea;

— children’s age up to 2 years;

Side effects

On the part of the organs of vision: the frequency is unknown — increased lacrimation, pupil dilation.
