Caffeine 65 mg

Properties
The drug has an analgesic and antipyretic effect. Panadol Extra contains a combination of the two active ingredients paracetamol and caffeine. Paracetamol blocks cyclooxygenase (COX) in the central nervous system, affecting the centers of pain and thermoregulation (in inflamed tissues, cellular peroxidases neutralize the effect of paracetamol on COX), which explains the almost complete absence of an anti-inflammatory effect. The lack of influence on the synthesis of Pg in peripheral tissues determines the absence of a negative effect on the water-salt metabolism (sodium and water retention) and the gastrointestinal mucosa. Caffeine stimulates the psychomotor centers of the brain, has an analgesic effect, enhances the effects of analgesics, eliminates drowsiness and fatigue, and increases physical and mental performance.

Side effects
At recommended doses, the drug is usually well tolerated. Paracetamol rarely causes side effects. An allergic reaction may occur in the form of skin rashes, itching, Quincke’s edema. Rarely — leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, methemoglobinemia, agranulocytosis, as well as sleep disturbance, tachycardia. With prolonged use in high doses, the likelihood of hepatotoxic and nephrotoxic effects increases and blood picture control is necessary.
