Properties

Hyaluronic acid is a component found in high concentrations in the articular cartilage and synovial fluid. Endogenous hyaluronic acid provides the viscosity and elasticity of the synovial fluid, and it is also necessary for the formation of proteoglycans in the articular cartilage. By normalizing the quality of synovial fluid and activating the processes of tissue renewal in the articular cartilage, the drug improves the function of the joints. Hyalgan has an anti-inflammatory effect on the epithelium of the joint, stimulates the natural formation of hyaluronic acid inside the joint.

Indications

Mild to moderate arthritis of the knee joints.

Method of administration and dosage:

Adults are prescribed 2 ml of Gialgan (20 mg) by intra-articular injection once a week for 5 weeks or according to the scheme recommended by the attending physician.

Contraindications

Individual hypersensitivity to drug components. History of allergy to poultry protein. Severe liver dysfunction. Intra-articular injections are contraindicated in the case of existing infection or skin disease of the injection site in order to reduce the potential development of septic arthritis.

Precautionary measures:

— it is not recommended to use disinfectants containing quaternary ammonium salts, since a sludge may form upon contact with hyaluronic acid;

Side effects

Injection site reactions, including discomfort, pain, swelling, redness, irritation, rash, nodules, pustules, vesicles, hemorrhages, ecchymosis, pruritus, joint inflammation, synovitis, joint effusion, joint stiffness, joint mobility disorder. These symptoms disappear within a few days if the joint is allowed to rest and an ice pack is applied. Only on rare occasions have these reactions been prolonged and severe. Hypersensitivity reactions, including anaphylactoid reactions, angioedema, skin reactions including rash, pruritus, erythema, eczema, dermatitis, urticaria; very rarely — anaphylactic shock, but without lethal consequences; serum sickness, fever, fever, headache, paresthesia. If a patient has a chronic inflammatory process in the acute stage, the use of hyaluronic acid in some individual cases worsened the patient’s condition.

Storage method:

Store at a temperature not exceeding 25 degrees in a cool dry place.
