Properties

Ketoconazole is a synthetic imidazole derivative of dioxolane with high antifungal activity against dermatophytes such as Trichophyton spp., Epidermophyton floccosum and Microsporum spp and against yeasts including Malassezia spp. and Candida spp. Ketoconazole has a particularly strong effect against Malassezia spp.

Usually, ketoconazole cream acts very quickly on itchy skin in dermatophytosis and yeast infections, as well as in skin lesions caused by the yeast Malassezia spp. In this case, symptomatic improvement is observed even before the first signs of recovery appear.

Indications

— dermatophyte infections of the skin caused by Trichophyton spp, Microsporum spp and Epidermophyton spp:

-dermatomycosis of smooth skin;

— inguinal epidermophytosis;

Dosage and administration

Wellofang 2% cream is for external use only in adults.

Wellofang 2% cream should be applied to the affected areas once or twice a day depending on the severity of the infection.

Treatment should continue for several more days after the disappearance of all symptoms of the disease. Usually, the duration of treatment is: pityriasis versicolor — 2-3 weeks, ringworm — 3-4 weeks.

Contraindications

The drug is contraindicated in patients with known sensitivity to any component of the drug.

Precautionary measures:

Wellofang 2% cream should not be used in ophthalmic practice.

Side effects

From the immune system: infrequently — hypersensitivity.

From the side of the skin and subcutaneous tissue: often — burning of the skin; infrequently — bullous rash, contact dermatitis, rash, skin exfoliation, skin stickiness; unknown — urticaria.

General disorders and reactions at the injection site: often — erythema, itching at the application site; infrequently — bleeding, discomfort at the injection site, dryness, inflammation, irritation at the application site.
