Properties

Eszopiclone is a non-benzodiazepine hypnotic drug. It is an active stereoisomer of zopiclone, belonging to the class of cyclopyrrolones. Cyclopyrrolone drugs demonstrate high efficacy and low toxicity, and are a safe alternative to other drugs used for insomnia. Eszopiclone acts as an agonist at benzodiazepine binding sites located on GABA-A neurons. Eszopiclone is rapidly absorbed after oral administration, with serum levels peaking 1-1.3 hours after ingestion.

Indications

Chronic insomnia.

Dosage and administration

The recommended dose is 1 mg.

The maximum daily dosage is 3 mg.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity, severe respiratory failure, pregnancy, breast-feeding, age up to 18 years. Dose and duration of treatment, as well as in patients with a history of alcohol abuse or other drugs and non-drug substances. Such patients during the period of treatment should be under close supervision. However, dependence (very rarely) can also occur at therapeutic doses and/or in patients without individual risk factors.When using eszopiclone in the elderly, care must be taken due to the risk of developing pronounced sedative and / or muscle relaxant effects. The drug should be withdrawn gradually. requiring increased concentration of attention (driving a car, working with mechanisms) and speed of psychomotor reactions.

Side effects

General side effects:

Unpleasantly bitter or metallic taste in the mouth; — headaches; — chest pain; — flu symptoms; — pain; — dry mouth; daytime sleepiness; lightheadedness; dizziness; upset stomach; decreased sex drive; painful periods; heartburn.

Less common side effects may include: rash; itching; impaired coordination; — swelling of the hands, feet, ankles, or lower legs; — painful and frequent urination; — back pain.
